My Experience with a Celery Detox & the 6 Benefits for Your Body
One of the most overlooked veggies is now taking center stage with it's incredible detoxifying capabilities. The least liked veggie on the crudites plate and the notoriously leftover part of the bloody mary is gaining prominence as the latest and greatest superfood. While 16 ounces seems slightly aggressive, even to me (that's one full STALK of celery every morning), I decided I would ease my way into it and give it a try.
Normally I'm not the biggest advocate of juices. While they can be incredibly beneficial for some people or a great way to kickstart a detox, I believe it's best to eat whole foods (fiber/pulp included) in their most natural state. The fiber is actually one of the most nutritious parts and feeds healthy gut bacteria. Additionally, a lot of juices these days are filled with sweet fruits like apples or pineapple that spike your body's sugar levels.
After doing more research I realized that celery juice is best consumed on it's own (although I eased my way into it by adding minimal amounts of sweeter fruits and veggies to start).
However, this pulp-free juice is actually incredibly healing because it has potent and bio-available nutrients that can be easily absorbed, even by those with chronic illnesses. While I do opt for the salmon lunch and veggie dinner, restaurants simply add so much oil, salt, and additives that even these "healthy options" have finally taken a toll.
It was definitely time to give my body a much needed break.
Over the past week, I did a celery-Moringa detox while also limiting my restaurant meals. This detox consisted of me consuming a celery-Moringa juice (exact proportions to follow) first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. The rest of the day I ate and drank whatever I wanted , however I was more mindful about eating clean, wholesome foods. I also cooked more meals at home!
Why do a detox?

I am not an avid juicer but I really loved this celery juice. Although it may not sound like the most enticing juice option, it goes down a lot easier than other green juices. The celery is pretty light so while it definitely tastes green and healthy it's not as painful as a kale and spinach combo. I even started to love and crave it in the morning! I also found that juicing the veggies yourself really enhanced the freshness and and full experience of the juice. It smells amazing!
I have been doing this consistently for the past 10 days and have definitely noticed an enhancement in my health and energy levels.
The first day was the hardest as my body is not accustom to drinking so much liquid in the morning (aside from water). By the time I got to work though I was already feeling more energized and clear. My stomach didn't feel quite as bloated. On day two I gulped it down and by day three I was craving it in the morning. Over the course of the past 10 days I felt progressively felt more clean, energized and clear. The bloat is gone and I have had really great energy levels despite staying up late and getting less sleep.
This celery-Moringa juice is something I would like to frequently incorporate into my routine, especially when feeling bloated, low energy or like I am getting sick. I highly recommend trying it!
**Note: It definitely helped me to start with a sweeter juice (incorporating cucumber/ lemon and apple) and ease my way to pure celery-moringa juice.
